We quickly learned that our dream was pretty far off since we don't have $600,000+ to spend on a house. My husband is extremely handy and I'm blessed with a family that knows their way around a saw. We decided to look for a house with "good bones" and we would remodel to make it our own.
We went to look at several houses and after a few weeks, found one that would work perfectly for us. It was built in the 80s with an open concept floor plan and has 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, a dining area, living room, kitchen, playroom, a huge deck, and a dock. Best of all, it has fantastic lake views from my master bedroom, the other master bedroom, and kitchen/living room/dining room.
We close on it next week and have our work cut out for us. Every room will need to be touched and I will be sharing posts of everything that we're doing along with how we're doing it and what products are being used. I'll also be asking your advice while I make decision. Here's just a few things that have to be done before we can move in-
-Completely tear out the kitchen cabinets, counter tops, and island
-"The boys"(my husband, dad, brother, and cousin) will build new cabinets
-New counter tops
-Refinish the hardwoods in the living room/kitchen/dining area/master bathroom
-Tearing out the carpet in every other room
-Replacing the flooring
-Painting every room
-Fixing the railing on the deck and dock
-Putting up a small fence on the sides of the house(from house to the existing fence) so that my kids can get to the backyard(lake) from the front yard
The rest can be done over time after we move in. My current master bathroom doesn't work for me and doesn't have a bathtub. We may not redo that room at first(we'll see what's left in our budget), but will eventually do that as well. The lighting in every room will also be redone/replaced, but that isn't something that has to be done before we move in. I could go on and on about what needs to be done(don't even get me started on the yard), but I will share everything with you over time.
I have some great companies already lined up for reviews and giveaways of some items that we're using to remodel and decorate our house. My "Join Two Of A Kind as they remodel their full house" event will officially start after we close next week and start getting our hands dirty. I will be sharing pictures of the complete process from demo to finish. Go ahead and grab my new event button for extra entries into the giveaways that I'll be having. If you have a product that you think would make a great fit, feel free to email Dee at twoofakind868@aol.com.

Sounds great! My husband and I have the same dream, we want to take the bones of a decent house and make it our own. I will follow along with your journey!
this is so awesome! my husband and i found a house in our city we really want that was built before 1913 and the current owners gutted the entire kitchen and bathroom and left it as is! we are working on figuring out a way to get this house and take it over so we can remodel it! i will be watching your blog for your remodel of your house! congrats on the house!!
oh that is quite exciting! the house sounds amazing! And on the lake too!! Wow. can't wait to see pictures.
LOL! We're in opposite world! Right now I'm in the process of selling me beloved lake house to buy a bigger house on a large piece of property. When I built this house 10 years ago, I was single and childless. I love love LOVE this house and location, but it just doesn't fit my married mommy life any more.
So, we should close next week on the closing of this house and our purchase of an older, but remodeled and added on to farm house on a larger piece of land. It has a pool, gorgeous yard & property and about twice the square footage.
I will miss the lake, but not the noise, traffic and tourists! But most of all, I think I will miss my custom kitchen. We too will have some work to do at our new home.
:)
