A few minutes later I realized she wasn't using her right arm. After some inspection, I saw that it wasn't really red, swollen, or bruised, so we decided to wait until the next day to see how she acted with it. She still wasn't using it so we made an appointment.
They decided to do x-rays after seeing her and it showed swelling around her elbow(where it hurts) which usually indicates a small fracture?!? Or something like that. They will have her in a cast for 7-10 days(we go back next Friday) where they will take it off and x-ray again. If they see any other signs of fracture they will put it back on for two more weeks.
She picked this apple green color, but has hated it from the second it was put on. She constantly asks for it to be taken off and her right thumb happens to be the one she sucks - now she can't get it to her mouth. It has made nap and bedtime a challenge.
Its 100 degrees outside and it is going to be hard keeping her out of the water. I asked the doctors about those bag things to put over the cast and they said they sometimes don't work. Have any of you had any experience with them?

Poor baby! I broke my arm in 2 places when I was young like she is. I used the bags to take baths and play in a sprinkler but never went to the pool with one. I never had a problem with them but I was cautious with the cast.
Poor thing! That must be really hard on her to not be able to suck her thumb.
I know my sister used the bags for a quick shower, but not swimming. I think submersing it would be a problem. Maybe just using it with the sprinkler?
I broke my arm when I was little and I could use the bag thing for in the shower and if I was going to get a little wet (like playing in the sprinkler) but I was told I couldn't swim or anything like that.
Poor thing. I know there are waterproof casts...so maybe if she has to get another one, go for that?
My son just got a cast off. I swear everything we tried to keep it dry, didn't work. Good luck!
Poor little girl. My son had a cast on his wrist for six weeks and it got really hot and sweaty. It really smelled. I just gave him a bath and he held up his hand.
Josh broke his arm last summer. I reviewed some products from Cast Coverz here that might help you out! http://www.ourkidsmom.com/2011/07/cast-coverz-broken-bones-gear-feel-better-heal-better-review-broken-bones-club-t-shirt-giveaway-ends-718/
My 2 year old son fractured his femur and he was in almost a body cast but it was waterproof. It was great because he was able to be put in the bathtub and whatever we needed to do. If she has to get a second one, ask if they can do waterproof cast.
My 5 year old fractured his elbow in April after falling out of a swing at school. We used the bag thingy for bath time and it kept the cast dry but he was not a big fan of it because it covered his whole hand. We also tried to prevent him from putting his arm completely in the water for long periods of time because we didn't want to risk the cast getting wet and having to have it redone.
Poor little thing!
How old is she? My son broke his arm at 3 and was in cast up to almost his shoulder. We used a cast cover and he swam the entire summer without a problem. It was relatively easy to use and stood up to bubbles in the tub, heavy duty splashing and the abuse of a toddler with autism. I highly recommend.
Ouch! Poor baby, I hope when she goes back all is well. We've been super lucky and had no breaks so far.
We've never had luck with bags to cover a cast, and of course, if water gets inside you risk getting a rash or even an infection. Hopefully she'll only have to have the cast for 7 to 10 days. Hope it's healed by that time. :)
Henry fell off some monkey bars and fractured his arm two summers ago {the first day that he was out of school}! He only had to keep his cast on for two weeks so it wasn't terrible. We didn't even try to do the bag or swimming. That thing smelled bad enough without getting it wet!
Poor little one. Hope the cast is off soon. Just like gremlins...don't get it wet!
Poor kid, how sad that she can't suck her thumb. I hope the cast comes off soon.
She is so precious! She always has the cutest look on her face.I bet she's glad to have that off her arm!
I broke my arm right before my 3rd birthday and I was also really upset I couldnt suck my thumb. She'll have to switch hands if she wants to suck a thumb!
i hope it all turned out okay. i have not had to have a cast yet for me or the kids. fingers crossed.
