Home Remodel Questions Answered - Granite Or Quartz

When we first started discussing our Kitchen Remodel, we both decided on granite. After watching DIY decorating shows and visiting home improvement stores, we've also starting thinking about quartz. I think we're still leaning towards granite, but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Granite or Quartz?

We're going to go with a color similar to this-

I wish I could have either of them. I think you're in good shape either way!

Hm...Sounds like quite a quandary. In all actuality, go with what stirs your senses best. Both quartz and granite have their positives and negatives. Just make sure you get good installers. Inspect a couple of their other jobs first before you hire them. Then no matter what you pick, it will look terrific.

I was going to put granite in my kitchen but it needs care. And then I thought about the goop you had to put on it getting into whatever I was baking. And so I put in Caesarstone (http://www.caesarstoneus.com/) and I LOVE it. If I ever do another kitchen and I hope to all that is holy that I never have to - I would put it in again. Many of the choices are made from recycled materials so it's eco friendly as well.

Oh, and that was the exact granite I was going to install....
This is the Caesarstone I put in: http://www.caesarstoneus.com/products/color/6140/
It's called Smokey Ash

I think either will be fine but I'd go with quartz. I think granite is a fading trend.

I love granite, so sleek. I would go with a lighter color. Not sure what quartz looks like...

I'd take either. Whichever I could use as a cutting board and not kill the finish LOL

I put Cambria Quartz in my home and love it! I actually bought it at IKEA when they were having their 20% off all kitchen items and saved even more money.
I researched for years the benefits and issues with all materials (granite, quartz, silestone, concrete, tile...etc.) We were told by one company that sold all different types of countertops that if granite is not sealed properly that it can absorb water and mold can grow on the bottom side of the countertops.
Here is a good article on how they compare.

I also got Consumer Reports Kitchen and Baths report and they even recommend quartz. I would highly recommend getting this magazine. I even got it for my Color Nook. I read it all the time when we were remodeling.

The one thing I would have done differently would be to change out the sink faucet. It sits to far back on the farmhouse sink and I feel like my back hurts from bending to much.

I like the color you have chosen.

We have long dreamed of new counter tops. When hubby and I have the money to replace we will be going with Quartz. We were told that the granite can chip, and that the quartz won't. Also, you can move hot pans straight from oven to the counter top, without damaging it.

Alas, I have laminate in my house and on one income (right now) we can't replace anything. Some day I would love to expand our kitchen and put in really nice counters. I like the idea of quartz, but I don't honestly know much about either. I just know I like the color you picked. :-)

Granite. If you decide to sell down the road you'll get back more on your investment and it looks nice. I love my granite counter tops!

When we did our kitchen we went with granite and still love it. In fact, our color is similar to yours. I'm posting the link to my post showing the kitchen, in case you want to look. I don't have any experience with quartz....but like I said, 4 years later and we still love our granite.
