Family Portrait Tips + jcpenney Portrait Studio Promotion

I always try to snap a family portrait during any celebration or if I know we'll be anywhere with pretty scenery. After looking at our pictures over the past few years, there are several things that I've learned to make the process more enjoyable.

Matching Outfits
If we are all going to be in the picture, I do my best to coordinate outfits. I pick 1-2 colors and raid our closets to find the best matches. Sometimes I need to go out and buy something, but we almost always have the basics such as black and white or blue jeans and white shirts.

Don't Say Cheese!
If you tell the kids to say cheese, they're going to look, well, cheesy! Let them have some freedom on their poses and have fun. If they're genuinely happy, you'll get some great shots.

Be Sneaky
Don't make a big deal out of getting pictures taken. Simply dress them up and follow them around. Some of my favorite pictures were taken when my kids weren't even paying attention to me.

Keep Snapping
If you're taking the pictures yourself, snap away! There is no such thing as too many pictures and you can delete as many "bloopers" as you'd like. Sometimes I end up taking 100 pictures only to have a handful of great ones. Most look something like this-

Let A Professional Step In

While I enjoy taking pictures of my growing family, I am no photographer. I make sure to book a session with professionals so that I can have quality photos of our family each year. jcpenney Portrait Studio is always having great promotions to make professional portraits a little more affordable.

We will be taking advantage of their April promotion of $20 for 6 traditional portrait sheets (mix and match size and images) as well as one free $9 sitting fee. We still haven't gone anywhere to get pictures taken since Kallie Jane was born and this deal is too good to pass up! I would love to get a great picture of the three kids together. I still don't have a good one with the three of them.  I made a Portrait Inspirations Board on Pinterest that I plan on using over the next year.  We'll be hitting many milestones that I can't wait to capture and remember forever.

Visit the jcpenney Portrait Studio website to learn more and use the store locator to find a studio near you.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of jcpenney Portrait Studio. I was asked to create a Pinterest Board and pin at least five (5) pins. I give jcpenney the right to repin any or all images/original content from this board. I received a promotional item as a thanks for my participation.

The candid ones are fabulous, but sometimes ya just gotta let the pros give it a go! Very cute shots!

Great tips. I find it much harder now with my almost 10 year old to get photos. He just can't do a smile so we click away!
