Pregnancy Questions Answered - Morning Sickness?

I've been so much busier than I thought I'd be this summer and have been slacking on the parenting/pregnancy questions. Now that I'm pregnant and this will be our last, I want to record as much of it as possible.

I honestly don't remember having any nausea or anything at all when I was pregnant with Evan. I was working 80 hour weeks during my 1st trimester, so it is all a blur. However, I did have a bit of nausea with Isabella. I never threw up, but I was nauseous on and off for several weeks. With this one, I was nauseous on and off for about 2-3 weeks and then it was over. As long as I ate every few hours, I kept the nausea at bay and seemed to be OK. I do remember one day at about 8 weeks where I felt nauseous all. day. long. One day all I ate was french fries because that is all I felt like eating.

I feel horrible for those of you that have severe morning sickness! I know that many people are thankful because the more symptoms they have, the more "sticky" they feel the baby will be.  I'm not sure why some people get it and some don't, but my heart really goes out to those of you that do! My mom was the opposite. She was symptom free with the three of us, but had morning sickness with the babies that she lost. Needless to say, I freaked a little when I started feeling nauseous with Isabella, but obviously that all turned out fine and she's now 2(I can't believe that).

I was talking to a lady the other day who was pregnant with her first and she was actually stressing out that she was not having any morning sickness. I just told her to count her blessings that she was one of the few that might escape it.

So how about you? Did you have Morning Sickness? How severe? How long did it last?

I had morning sickness that started literally 3 days after I got my positive pregnancy test. It lasted until around 22 weeks or so, it was awful! I don't think there was a room here at work that I didn't throw up in!

I had severe "All-day" sickness until somewhere through the 2nd trimester. It was horrible.

Yup, had horrible morning sickness 24/7 since week 2 the entire first trimester! Had to get some pretty strong nausea medicine from the doctor and it ended up finally helping me because I couldn't even keep down water.

People shouldn't worry about weather they get that sick or not though. A lot of people say, if you get sick, it means you have a healthy baby, but really..it just depends on how sensitive you are to the change/increase in hormones! I am VERY sensitive to it, so much that I even had to get a LOW hormone dose of birth control meds while on them before because the regular one made me reallly sick and headaches.

My mom got Horribly sick too, like me when she was pregnant with all of us. She was in the hospital a lot from it and getting dehydrated. But lucky for me, in this day in age, there is prescription medication I can have a home now that helps instead of going to the hospital which I definitely would have had to many times if not for it.

So in my opinion, it just depends on how sensitive you are to it. And every pregnancy is different too.

Being as sick as I was, didn't mean anything. My baby girl turned out Absolutely perfect! Not even any Jaundice or colic or anything! Perfectly healthy in every way and even nursed perfect too. Actually she is 16 months and we are still happily nursing LOL!

So, Like I said, I think it just depends on how sensitive you are to the hormones and I don't think it has anything to do with the baby good or bad. Don't worry about it, and you can always talk to your doctor about it and be reassured. :)

With all three of my pregnancies I've been pretty lucky like you. I've had on and off nausea, but nothing severe. With all of them I have learned to keep food in my stomach, and that helps a lot.

I had severe morning sickness w/ both pregnancies, and would lose weight in the first half rather than gain. My doctor put me on Zofran and for my first it was a life saver as I felt instantaneously better, but w/ the second the nausea stayed but at least I didn't throw up...still I didn't get swollen ankles or stretch marks at least.

With my son, I was never sick, and the pregnancy went truly well. Only the birth was a little off, ended with csection. This time around, well its been completely different! I was sick starting around 5 weeks! I had to stop taking my prenatals but was still stuck on my couch for a few weeks just being miserable. Then for weeks after that it didn't matter what, when, or how much I ate, I ended up getting sick EVERY night before I went to bed. It has finally gone away, but was pretty bad up until 16 weeks!

With my first I remember being slightly sick feeling off and on but it didn't last long. I don't remember any problems at all with my second really. With this one (I'm almost 6 weeks) I've been sick since the second I got pregnant it seems like.

With my daughter, I barely had any and it was great. Just minor, relieved by taking a prenatal with B6 in it. With this baby, ugh, I was sick all day, morning noon and night, but didn't ever throw up. I just felt like crap ALL DAY...for 11 weeks. Thankfully it has passed, and actually I was kind of glad for it, because I had a miscarriage in January, so I kind of felt like it was my body's way of letting me know baby was still hanging in there. But I am SO glad it's over with!

New reader - first off wanted to say I love your blog!

With my first (my son), I had AWFUL "all day" sickness. Threw up 6 times a day, every day, for 13 weeks. I can't think of a restaurant or a place around here I didn't throw up in. Was on nausea meds and even that didn't help.

With my daughter, I had some mild nausea, but was nothing like what it was with my son. I agree that it just depends on you and your body and how you handle it.

I do have to admit that when people say how sick they are I always feel sorry, and then I ask if they are puking. I have had someone say no, but they wished they were, bc then it would make them feel better. Unfortunately for me, that never worked, I never felt better until I hit about 13 weeks, then I finally started to feel better.

I had some passing nausea with my first two boys-this time I had it for 22 weeks!!! Never actually getting sick, just severe nausea-enough to go on medicine for it!

I was convinced it was a girl because it was so different from my boy's pregnancies so imagine my surprise when I found out I was expecting my third boy! (This is our last child as well)

Krystyn said...

Lots of nausea all four times, but never any puking (well, I had a bug really early on, but that had a bunch of other symptoms, too). My worst one is sheer exhaustion and wanting to sleep ALL DAY long!

I did not have any. However, my sister had hyperemesis with both of her boys. She was on bedrest, because she got so sick and kept nothing down. She got a picc line both times and everything. It was just awful. Both babies were 6 weeks early, but they are almost 9 and 3 now and so darn adorable!

I had pretty bad nausea with both of my first 2 children, but managed to keep the throwing up to a minimum. It usually lasted until 14-16 weeks. With this my third, the nausea was the worst. I think I have thrown up more times this pregnancy than all of my life put together. And even though the nausea isn't as severe as the first trimester, I have felt sick at some point every day during this pregnancy. Six more days and the nausea should all be over. Can't wait.

Hi from Sherri,
I was sick for 3 months! Any smell, sounds from preschool class, or any thing seemed to trigger it! I would run to the preschool classroom toliet and hope noone came in. I survived and have a beautiful girl!

I had "morning sickness" for the first 4 months of pregnancy. But it was awful; more like "motion sickness" all day. It was hard to drive or be driven. I was on different kinds of meds for those 4 months. After that it went away. I had a very healthy baby girl.

With daughter #1: I had severe all day sickness. It was the worse at night, but I threw up constantly. I would eat something, throw it up, eat again, throw up, etc. The cycle just kept repeating itself. :( It lasted until 22 or 23 weeks and then it lifted until the end of my pregnancy where again I felt sick! Blahh!

With daughter #2: I dreaded and I mean dreaded finding myself pregnant with her because I remembered what it was like. In some ways her pregancy was easier, but in others it was not because I had my older daughter at home. I was very tired and just nauseous. I rarely threw up this time, but the nausea would never leave. It lasted until around 18-19 weeks.

Daughter #3: Was adopted, so my "sickness" with her was a whole different kind of worrying and praying! :)

I had morning sickness from about week 6 up until the 10th week. Not only did I have an upset stomach all day long, I got sick at least once or twice. I was told in one of my pregnancy classes that the nausea has to deal with how well the egg implanted in the uterus. The better the implant, the more likely you are to feel sick. I was so relieved when the daily sickness was over.

I had pretty bad Morning sickness. I would call it more all day sickness. I tried to eat every few hours but nothing helped. I was getting sick all of the time and lost about 25 pounds. My doctor gave me a Rx that was AMAZING! I started to notice feeling better withoutt the pills around 5 month along. I would go throught it all again for my little girl!

When I was pregnant with my son I only sometimes felt a little nauseous in the late evening time but other than that no sickness or vomiting whatsoever. It's weird but during the entire pregnancy (even before I knew), my son's father actually threw up almost every morning and was sick throughout the day. *LOL*

I am almost 38 weeks pregnant with our son- and have have nausea since 6 weeks! It has been awful! With our first- our daughter- it started around 6 weeks and was over by about 14 weeks! This one has been rough!

I didn't have much with both. I did however get dizzy a lot when I was pregnant with Mica. I actually fainted while in the shower {scary}. Then I was sooooooooo tired with both of them! My bedtime was at 7 pm the first trimester. My husband thought something was majorly wrong with me.

I had a little bit of sickness with all three ofmine, but nothing too terrible! The heartburn was the worst though! I totally get only wanting to eat french fries....that is what I lived off of with my first two:)

With my first, it kicked in around 6 weeks but was fairly mild and only lasted about a week or two. With my 2nd, it was worse. I was nauseous from morning til night and it lasted about 3 weeks. My 3rd and 4th weren't too bad. With my 5th, I was miserable! Only threw up a couple of times but the nausea was constant for about a month.

Kind of like you...nothing at all with one pregnancy and a wee bit of queasiness with the other.

I miss being pregnant. I'm glad you are doing well!

I couldn't even bare the thought of food with my first pregnancy. I would FORCE myself to eat a little something throughout the day. I CONSTANTLY felt like I was going to throw up, even with just water. I would fight the feeling, as I can't stand to throw up. I only threw up a few times, and then I lost that pregnancy at 7 weeks. It was HORRIBLE from the get go.
My second pregnancy was MUCH better. During weeks 7-10 I got nausea a few times(that lasted a few hours max), and threw up once (when I ate onions). Otherwise I felt FANTASTIC! That pregnancy gave us our son!
Like others say, how ill you feel has nothing to do with the health of your baby!

I was lucky and only had morning sickness for about 3 days but I had a horrible craving for Campbell's chicken noodle soup for 6 months. lol

I was having quite a bit more morning (afternoon) sickness this time around. It's my 3rd pregnancy and I threw up quite a few times. And I. HATE. to. PUKE! But I also think it may have had something to do w/some meds I was taking because I'd been on that Rx before, and felt some nausea. So around 14 weeks, I called my Dr. and had him change it. I've been pretty ok since. So idk if it was just done after the 1st trimester, or done because I stopped that Rx. Anyway, I'm very grateful to be through it. Hope you start feeling better!

I had Morning Sickness for the first 3.5 months. It was kind of weird because I would be sick for 3 days in a row then I would be fine for 2 days. Then back to be sick for 3 days and then fine for 2. It was like this for my first 3.5 then I was over it. I wish you the best with your last baby!
