Sony VAIO® E Series laptop

After getting a virus on my desktop over a year ago, I finally purchased a new laptop. I won't mention the brand, but I have had nothing but problem after problem with it. I admit that a few problems resulted in my kids dropping it, but there were also some technical issues with it. My husband and I had been discussing which brand to go with next when Sony emailed me about their VAIO® E Series laptop.

Performance and multimedia entertainment in a colorful 15.5” HD widescreen notebook with an integrated number pad. An Intel® Core™ i3 processor and Blu-ray Disc™ drive give you smart performance and amazing picture quality all in a sleek, up-market design.
As a blogger, I need a reliable computer that I can easily transport around my house and on vacations. While 15.5" is pretty large, it suits my needs perfectly. Not only can I have several windows open and see them perfectly, but my kids and I can also watch Blu-ray movies together on the larger screen.

Features:

  • Smart performance with an Intel® Core™ i3 processor
  • Windows® 7 Home Premium
  • Watch just about anything that is on your laptop on your compatible HDTV, wirelessly
  • Connect your VAIO® PC to a PS3™ with Remote Play
  • 15.5” backlit LED for improved power efficiency and greater contrast
  • Enjoy the crystal clear clarity of Blu-rayDisc™ movies
  • One touch access to the web without boot up into Windows® with WEB button
  • Press VAIO button to enjoy your media in a whole new way with Media Gallery™ software
  • ASSIST button launches VAIO Care™ software, a simple do-it-yourself PC maintenance tool
  • Built-in camera with face-tracking technology and microphone for video chats
  • Comfortable to use isolated keyboard with pleasing, dimpled touch pad
  • Effortlessly connect your PC to your compatible HDTV via HDMI™ output
  • Microsoft® Office Starter 2010 preloaded with reduced–functionality versions of Word and Excel®
  • Easily connect to your wireless network with built in Wi-Fi®
  • Dimensions - 14.56 x 9.77 x 1.22 inches (WxDxH)
  • Weight - 5.9 pounds
As soon as the Sony VAIO® E Series laptop arrived over a month ago, I said bye-bye to my old laptop and have exclusively been using the Sony. The laptop was ready to use right out of the box and I immediately hooked it up. I quickly loaded our virus protection, Microsoft Office, and set it up with our printer. I was very impressed with how fast the VAIO is - it makes my old laptop look like a dinosaur!

There are several features that I've fallen in love with.  I adore the fact that it has three USB ports on the side that allows me to use many different devices at once.  The built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam (with integrated microphone) allows me to do video conferences or simply chat with family that is out of town.  I know its trivial, but I had really missed having a numeric keypad on the side, and this has one.

The VAIO® E Series laptop also comes with three special hardware buttons: VAIO, ASSIST and WEB that gets you to where you want to go with a touch of a button. The WEB button gives one touch access to the web without full boot up into Windows®. Press the VAIO button to launch Media Gallery™ software and create movies, and enjoy photos and music in a whole new way. The ASSIST button links directly to VAIO Care™ software that helps maintain and troubleshoot any PC issues for optimal performance.  I may have learned a lot about tech gadgets and other things that I need to run my blog, but I still don't know it all.  There are many terms that go over my head and having the ASSIST button there if I ever need it help keeps my mind at ease.

While I'm not a computer expert, I am a blogging mom who constantly relies on my laptop.  The Sony VAIO® E Series laptop has not let me down once in the month that I've had it. I would absolutely recommend it to any of my blogger and other mommy friends alike. It is fast and has all the features that I need to stay on top of my email, browse the web, write posts, read other blogs, play with my kids, and much more. It may be a little more expensive than some other brands, but I feel it has features that are completely worth it. Not to mention, Sony is a name brand that my family has grown to love and trust.

Visit Sony to learn more about the VAIO E Series Laptop, view the technical specifications, and to check out their other products.

I LOVE that it has the number key pad I was just thinking about the fact that mine doesn't have one! I know it's a weird thing to want in a computer but I'm right there with you!

I desperately need a new laptop. We've had ours for over 2 years now and it still works OK but there are some fundamental problems with it. The ONE reason that we chose the laptop that we did was because of the numeric keypad on the side. We purchased it so that I could work from home and I really needed that function. It's NOT trivial in the slightest! Thanks for the post about the Sony Vaio! I'll keep it in mind when I'm out looking for new computers. We have a Sony TV, a Sony DVD player, and I use a Sony Alpha camera. I guess you could say I'm a Sony gal :)

My desktop was a Vaio (never use it any more) and before I started gaming so was my laptop. LOVED both, never had issues. The only reason I switched brands is because I needed a hardcore computer that could run the intense graphics when I play WoW.

I absolutely ADORED the fact that my digital camera was also a Sony (Cybershot) and my laptop had the port for the memory card. Of course now that's common, but when I first bought it, that was a unique feature :)

We were looking at a Vaio, but it was just out of our price range (Read: I'm cheap lol) and there was a Toshiba on sale.

We need a new laptop and we were considering a Vaio, but it is just not in the budget right now! I envy you!

It really does look like an awesome Laptop. Mine died last year and I went and got a Toshiba. I am happy with it, but this looks like a great machine. I love the one touch buttons!

I was just looking at the Sony laptops and the salesperson highly recommended the VAIO series. This post solidified my decision!

Once upon a time I had a Sony VIAO and I really liked it! It looks like they are still making awesome laptops. I just got a new laptop a few months ago but next time I'm in the market I'll have to remember to look at Sony's again.

We're in the market for a new laptop and were thinking about going with a Mac, but we might have to reconsider after seeing this.

I'm not so fond of Sony. They have a terrible warranty and the screens as nice as they are to look at are very fragile

I bought one of these last year Dee and I have had nothing but trouble with mine, it has the blu ray in it as well and the sound is unadjustable and it's the worst on any computer I have had, which surprises me because it's Sony a brand I love. Maybe I just have a lemon so you will have to let me know, also this one was really expensive so I was really upset!

My very first computer of my own was a Sony Vaio in 2000. I LOVED IT and it lasted for such a long time! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great computer at a great price!

I desperately need a new computer. My laptop that I was using was so old that I had an external internet plug for it! Well it finally died out on me. Stinks cause I lost some valuable pictures and programs on it :(. Now I am using a just as old compaq desktop that a friend of mine gave to me about 8 yrs ago! ... Runs soooooo slow :(
I too love the fact that this Sony VAIO has the microphone & web camera! Would make it so much more easier for my granddaughter to talk and see her daddy when he deploys as well as her extended family who miss her so much in Iowa & NY.
I too am not that computer savvy, so to actually have an "assit" button right there for you is FANTASTIC!
I REALLY like this laptop and how can you go wrong with SONY products! Their merchandise has always been top of the line and reliable!
Thank you for this wonderful review ... I will definitely keep my eye out on this laptop when shopping for a much needed new one!

My Not-So-Bebe-Girl Autumn is going off to college this year (Oh, my gosh! next month .. already) She's the youngest girl, so I'm feeling some of the mommy anxiety. An anonymous giver from a community theater that we've been involved in gave her a check to use towards college, and after lots of research and asking around, this is the laptop she ended up with, and she loves it. We, too, have had bad experiences with a major computer manufacturer and have vowed never to purchase from them again, but her Vaio is wonderful for what she needs, and we're very happy with it.

Wish you would have done this before Christmas! LOL We just bought our first ever laptop then. So far so good with it though! Keeping my fingers crossed! We didn't even think about Sony when we were looking around - now I wish we would have!

I sure need a new laptop also. Mine is so old it takes forever to boot up. I would hate to junk it just yet because my whole iTunes library is on it. I like the fact that this one you can "watch just about anything that is on your laptop on your compatible HDTV, wirelessly". I KNOW it is super fast too. I hate waiting on a page to load....LOL Plus I love the Sony brand. We have everything from TV's to stereo items from Sony. I even still have my Walkman!

I love the idea of having a webcam and microphone on the laptop. The one I have now has neither.

What a great laptop. I have a Sony VAIO, but not a laptop. I have one of those cook desktop/touchscreen computers that I totally LOVE.

I have heard amazing praise for Vaio laptops! I have a laptop that works but its heavy. As in, when I am carrying it while traveling I can barely stand it. I'd love something lighter but still powerful, like the Vaio!

Katy said...

I also need a number keypad on the side- I have a Toshiba laptop now- and that is one of the features I HAD to have. I love that the webcam has face tracking technology- we use the webcam for talking to my family who live far from us.

Jen said...

Our house loves all Sony products. Such a great brand! I completely agree on wanting a number pad, as I'm a pretty quick ten-key. Love how lightweight and portable the VIAOs are! singnsk8(at)hotmail(dot)com

I love that this laptop includes a webcam. I find that incredibly helpful when traveling on business so I can participate in meetings with my colleagues and call home to my family in the evenings.

It seems that everyone in my family has a laptop EXCEPT me. I'm still using my big, bulky desktop computer with a camera on the top of my monitor. I want to go wireless with a new, up-to-date laptop. I love Sony's products. They are very reliable. I love a lot of features on the Sony Vaio E Series Laptop such as I can watch Blu-Ray movies on it, only weighs 5.9 lbs., has the "ASSIST" button that I know I would be putting to good use, "WEB" button to access internet, built-in camera for when I use Skype for my daughter with my 2 sweet granddaughters and my son who lives in another state, wireless capability, and I can transport it anywhere in or out of my home not like the antique computer that is stationary on top my desk.

Jamala said...

If we weren't a Mac household I would definitely be getting this Sony laptop!
