My Baby Is Peeing In The Potty!! + Question

If you're a parent that has ever gone through the potty training process, you can rejoice with me that my baby is now peeing on the potty! We have been sitting her on the potty almost every night before bathtime, but she wants to get down and refused to go. She finally peed in the potty on Saturday night! I was completely prepared for that to be a one time thing, but she has really taken off. (I really hate posts without pictures, so here's a random beach shot of her)

About 30 minutes later she was showing interest in the potty and went again! I asked her if she had to go potty as soon as she woke up yesterday morning and she did. We ran a ton of errands so we peed in every public potty within 100 yards of us. I'm pretty sure that I took her to the potty no less than 15 times. The girls drinks so much and is always having to go. The best part is that she was the one telling me she had to go 75% of the time. She only had one "accident" all day and she also pooped in her diaper, but it took Evan forever to poop on the potty, so I'm OK with being patient about that. We stocked up on big girl panties while we were out and she'll be sporting these today! I could only find 2T-3T, so fingers crossed that they're small enough to fit her(over a really thick pair of training undies).

On a side note, I was in the restroom and a woman kept using the word "urinate". She kept talking to her daughter and saying things like, "I thought you had to urinate." and "Are you done urinating?". The child was maybe 3. I'd love to know what she says when the girl goes poo poo! I almost asked her. So, I'm curious, what do you call it when your child goes potty?

We have called it so many things. Dropping the deuce, poop, plops, pee, tinkle, number one and number two, and urinate. It all depends on what mood I am in. Some parents want to teach their children the correct terms, but I can remember being excited when my son would go in the potty... I didn't care what I called it.

I have always called it pee and poop with Gavin. He will tell me he has "to make pee" or "make poop" and I am not sure why the word "make" is part of it. Congrats on the potty progress!

we use pee pee and poo poo

We always said go potty or pee pee, poo poo. It's funny because me son is 7 years old now and I gets so upset when I say do you have to go pee pee. :) I'm so used to it that it just comes out that way.

With the panties they tend to run pretty small so you should be ok. My daughter is 3 and we have to wear a 5T otherwise they are too uncomfortable. Good luck with your baby girl..Girls are much easier to train than boys.

LOL at urinate! I say pee and poop.

Congrats for using the potty! Those are cute undies, I remember getting Abby Littlest Pet Shop and Hello Kitty panties.

Hurray for her using the potty! I don't have kids of my own yet, but when my younger sister was potty training, we said "poop" and "pee". I get that some parents only want to use technical terms, but I probably won't bother. If I have to go to the bathroom, I don't tell people that I have to urinate; more often than not it's a "Hold my purse, I gotta freakin' pee!" hehe. :)

I ask them if they need to release some urine or excrement. Just kidding! It's pee and poop in our house. Maybe a little pee pee or poopy. But most of the time, I don't even distinguish. I just ask if they have to go potty. I even say that to my 7 and 9 yr olds. Just not in public!

I have no idea what my mom used to call it to be honest. But I know she was big on using "real" words not "baby words" as she calls it. So it's very possible she asked if I had to urinate. Though I think it's more likely she asked if I had to pee.

Whoohoo!!! I bet that lady is the kind who insists on using the technical name for everything...bet she'd just love how my daughter says she has to tinkle...because it sounds so much cuter than pee. She asked me, once why is it called peeing...that just sounds gross. What would a princess do, my mom told her tinkle so that's what it's been ever since.

Yay, way to go!! We used potty and poopy. I didn't want to get too babyish with the words we used. Urinate just sounds too old, I don't even say that!

We say pee-pee or pee and poo-poo or poop. I'm all about using correct terminology for body parts, since I heard it can deter sexual predators, but urinate? That seems a little much to me, but I guess if it works for her then whatever.

I think if your daughter is 2 then the 2T/3T undies should probably work okay. That's what my daughter wears, and she is totally potty trained, no training pants or anything. We just took the diapers away and told her she uses the potty now, and she did. That was after a couple weeks; we had started, then had to stop, and then started again and she was resisting it. Once the diapers were no longer an option, we had one or two days of accidents, and then she was fine. So I bet your little girl will be done pretty soon. Congrats!

We say pee pee and poopies.

My daughter wears the 2T/3T with no training pants and she is 2 1/2.

Congratulations to your daughter!

we're a pee and poop family. i'm all for kids knowing the 'proper' terms....but asking a little, "do you have to urinate?" really?

your daughter is adorable....and doing great with the potty! high fives all around!!

Haven't started potty training yet, but we're thinking of starting EC with our 6mo daughter. She usually gives us signs when she's about to poop, and if I can get her on the potty (which I just ordered) before she does, that's one less poopy diaper I have to clean! (We use cloth.)

So I suppose I'll be using pee and poop with her, though I hadn't really thought about it. I have never liked the word "urinate." It just sounds like a word someone with cooties or chronic constipation would use.

Hoory! That is so awesome! I understand how exciting it is when they finally start potty-training! Hopefully it will be smooth sailing for you from here on out!
And that is so funny about the lady saying "urinate." We say "pee" and "poop." Not exactly sophisticated, but it is what it is!

My boy has just started peeing in the potty a couple weeks ago! I think our kids are about the same age (turned 2 in january).

we say peeing. I remember reading a blogger who used "urinating" and "bowel movement" instead of poop. i think it's fine that you use kids version of the word.

That is awesome!! I love Marshall's too for toddler underwear. We are pretty borning at our house - we just say Pee Pee and Poop:)

Your daughter is gorgeous! I too am working on potty training both my 3 1/2 year old son, who refuses still to poop on the potty and my almost 2 year old daughter at the same time. My husband is taking next week off, so I figure that we can do some naked time and stay home with both kids, and since there will be the two of us. We can work with both kids together for 5 days! I hope we can get them both out of diapers soon, it would be so nice! We also say pee pee and poop or poo poo.

woo hoo! That's great! My 2 1/2 year old son just potty trained and whew, it was hard, but soooooooooooo incredibly worth it! ha!

We call it "tee tee" and "poo poo." His cousins all call it "pee" though, so he sometimes says that.

Good luck!

My daughter is 2 1/2 and is FINALLY using the potty pretty good. We use "tee tee" and "doo doo"

Our 2 year old just started using the potty as well (which was a big surprise for us)! She is doing great with pee, but poop is a whole nother issue! ;) Oh, and we obviously call it pee or poop. :)

First of all... Congrats! That's an exciting milestone. :) I bet you can't wait to be out of the I-need-to-visit-every-single-public-restroom-because-they-are-new-and-interesting phase though.

As for what we call it, just "pee" or "poop." Nothing fancy here.

Tamara said...

Oh, or "going to the potty."

My husband is brazilian, so we use the portuguese words for it. :) Xixi (shee-shee) and cocô.

WAY TO GO! That is exciting!

I actually loved the potty train process.

I taught both boy's how to pee standing up! Kind of odd for me because I was raised with all sisters and my mom had all sisters. I just told the boys to stand up on the stool, hold on, squirted their backs with water and away they went.

Isaak just turned 3, and still isn't totally night trained. I wake him up right before I go to bed to go pee. He does every time and sometimes wakes up dry.

Mica started going super early. I didn't push it, I just sat him down to make him feel comfortable with the royal thrown. He just kept going. He stared peeing on the pot at age 1. We really had problems with underwear fitting!

A note on the terms: Sesame Street has an Elmo Potty movie that is great! I love the songs! One problem: Little Bear calls it "Wee Wee" for pee and "Woo Woo" for poop. I hate that! Mica started calling his potty the terms Little Bear used. My parents who watched him one day a week had a really hard time understanding him!

We say pee and poop but our dog we say peepees and poo poos!

I've been reading a lot of blogs lately and potty training seems to be the current trend to tackle right now. Congrats to you and your little girl!

blueviolet said...

I know the experts say to use the proper terminology, but I'm sorry. I just can't. It was pee and poo for me, and still is and always will be no matter how old I get.

Anonymous said...

Yay! Congrats! Ours took a long time because she got really comfy in those pull-ups. I finally got tired of it and said underwear only.

We use pee, poo, pee pee, poo poo. Now DD will tell us that she 'pooped' or 'peeped'. lol

@alissaforillustration: I hated the 'wee wee' and 'woo woo' in that movie. Thank goodness our little one didn't pick that up.

We just say, do you have to go to the potty or call it pee. Although my 3.5 year old would love to learn a word like "urinating" - I'll try it on her!

UGH! I'm so jealous. My son is three and he has a baby brother which makes him want to stay a baby. Therefore he refuses to use the potty AT ALL. I have resorted to bribes and begging to no avail. We use pee and poop but he will do neither :-/

chichijunk said...

I've always spoken to my babies as if they were adults. No poop or pee here.
Now they are teens and they have much better language skills and a more expanded vocabulary than most adults.

Aww!! I remember those undies! They are so cute! My mom called me at work one day and told that my baby girl was potty trained! She told me to go to the store and get her some panties and NOT to get the diaper panties. I bought the kind like in the photo. Baby girl is all grown up!

I commented on "Baby is peeing in the potty". LOL!

We were very basic back then and stuck to the normal "pee-pee" & "poo-poo" -- but I remember those days so fondly...my eldest was so mesmerized by having Disney Princes Panties that it was very easy to bribe her with 'big girl' undies to get her onto the toilet. LOL!

Just now reading this post, but had to share the story of my step mom and her "words" for poop! To this day I will never use it with my own children. She made her two boys saw "Bowel Movement" every time they went poop either in diaper or potty! I think that is just as bad as urinate! Its peepee and poop in this house, with the occasional farts! I have a boy btw LOL
