My Mama's Macaroni And Cheese Recipe

The problem with different versions of the same dish is that I'm usually going to like the ones closest to how my Mama made it. It was what I was raised on and I have tried different types, but always go back to Mama's! :) It also happens to be a huge hit for anyone else that we make it for!  Southerners take food to anyone that has been sick, had a baby, had someone pass away, or really just to say "Hey!".  This is a side that we always make.

We also don't measure out our ingredients so many of the recipes that I share are my best guess at the amounts we use.

-1 box of elbow macaroni - cooked
-salt and pepper to taste
-can of evaporated milk
-1 egg
-Tbsp of flour
-3-4 cups of cheese(we LOVE cheese so its more like 4)
-Milk(you can add as little or as much as you want to make it "runny" or not-we usually add 1/3 or more)
-4-5 tablespoons on butter

Mix the first 6 ingredients together(we mix it together in the pan we're going to cook it in to save a bowl).  Add in milk until it is the consistency you'd want(we usually do 1/3-1/2 cup). Separate the butter into tablespoon sized pats and place 4-5 on top of the mixed ingredients.  Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. We like ours "runny", so if you like yours more "hard", leave it in there a few more minutes.

I don't measure out my ingredients either! I have a special recipe that I make for special occasions that everyone loves but it is funny because I don't like it. Too much cheese! LOL I used about 4 different kinds.

My Sister makes a mac n cheese that had run through my father's side of the family. NOTHING can compare. Hers is simple but it's never the same as when she makes it.

this one looks good though!

hers is 2 boxes of elbows,
2 family sized cans of cream of mushroom soup
salt and pepper to taste
a HUGE block of white mild/sharp cheddar.
Cook the noodles, mix the cream of mushrooms, salt and pepper and half the cheese, throw it in a casserole dish, put the rest of the cheese on top and bake.

I like it runnier too :)
