I Found The Silver Lining

There is always a reason to be positive and find "The Silver Lining" in everything. If you're new or have missed it - my mom has cancer. She had surgery almost 4 weeks ago and the surgery that she had makes it where she can't stand or even sit up straight for longer than a few minutes. She is just now healing from that last surgery.

As I've mentioned before, we live in the south and take any excuse to make someone a meal and take it over to them. We do it if you have a baby, are sick, had someone pass away, or "just because". Since my mom has "been out of commission", I've been spending a lot of time over there during the day to help out. As luck would have it, I just happen to be there when people have brought some seriously yummy food!

About a week or so ago, I told my mom that if there is a "silver lining" in all of this, it is the desserts. This, my friends, was a lemon cake with buttercream icing. #CompleteDietFailButOhSoYummySoIDontCare

Evan usually eats cake by only eating the icing.  Not this cake. He ate the icing AND the cake - seriously - it was that good.  I called the woman who brought this cake as soon as I had the first bite and thanked her profusely.

You should have asked her for the recipe too:) I'm glad you are still finding the silver lining even though you are going through such a tough time!

sounds like you are keeping the right attitude. I know it's hard when the roles are reversed and you're taking care of a parent. It's not that you wouldn't do anything in the world for them, it just can be hard on the heart to know that you're doing for them because they aren't able to!

Yeah! Did you get the recipe? I know what you mean as well. I live in a small town in Texas and while we might not always see eye to eye, we take good care of each other during hard times.

Many prayers and good wishes for your Mom and your family

Such a blessing for those around you to be taking care of your mom like that. There's always a silver lining. Just hard to find sometimes.

It does help to look towards some positive in things that seem to challenge us.

It is so wonderful to have folks who care at a time like this that bring dishes of cooked food or desserts for your Mom. I'm happy for you that you see the glass as half full, not half empty. Keep up your positive feelings because I believe they will be seen by your Mom and help her get stronger to fight this disease. Still keeping all of you in my prayers. :-)

I think that is a wonderful way to look at the situation. The sweetness of the ladies wonderful desserts. Hey, it must be the time of the year for lemon cake because we just finished up one last week ourselves.

A good dessert always ruins my diet but it's worth it! I wish I could send you some of my desserts but I don't think it would make it!
