What Songs Take You Back?

As you can tell by the title of my blog, I definitely listen to Country music and many songs have meaning to me. We recently got a new radio station that plays older songs as well as newer ones. I was driving in the car and "She's In Love With The Boy" came on. I couldn't help but smile, turn my radio up, and belt out the song at the top of my lungs. Isabella was the only one in the car and she was in her car seat dancing along too. That was my favorite song from Middle School through High School and I've belted it more times than I can count.

I started thinking about all of the other songs that take me back to different times in my life. I remember being really young and dancing around the living room to "Everlasting Love" when no one else was around. I am pretty sure I made up my own dance moves to that. :)

I can't help but smile as I think of my dad and I singing American Pie over and over again when he took me to basketball practices. That has to be one of the longest songs ever, but I memorized every word to it and loved my duet time with my dad.

Before that was "You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine...".  My mom used to sing it to me all the time when I was little and I remember being so jealous that my brother was born when I was 6 and she sang it to him too.

As a teenager, I had plenty of mixed cds with songs that meant a lot to me and my friends. When any of them come on the radio I think of different times and friends in my life. Where The Green Grass Grows came on the other day and I can't help but remembering one summer that we listened to this song pretty much anytime my group of friends got together.

What songs take you back and make you smile?

I'm reading Denise Jackson's autobiography - and I just can't get Chatahoochie out of my head. It takes me back to a summer when I spent a few weeks at my aunt's house with my sister and we watched American Gladiators and listened to Alan Jackson music. :D

I used to listen to country a lot when I was younger. I loved all the songs you mentioned. Pretty much any Tim Mcgraw makes me think of old times. Mostly driving in the car with my friends in the summer :)

Ok, mine are different LOL
"MmmBop!" from Hanson reminds me of a time when life was all about fun. I was so in love with them in middle school LOL

And "Jesus Freak" by dc talk reminds me of high school. So does "Hit Me Baby One More Time" By britney spears. Those were good years!

I love music (especially country!) and I did a post like this a while back.
Lately I've been listening to our oldies station a lot, because it features songs from when I was in high school. (sigh)
One of my faves is "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart; it was our senior class song and truly a great song.

Songs totally take you back don't they! I love that I can remember great times just by listening to a song. Ok so I think it is HILARIOUS that at 6 you were totally jealous of your mom singing "your" song to your little brother. :)

Oh my.. My first favorite song was "Cinderella" sung by the mice from the movie.. back in the 40's.. still have that record..lol I love Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee and more oldies. The Everly Brothers had some great songs. I discovered Bread, "Make It With You" in the 80's, then Michael Bolton etc... I love music and have to have a dose every day.

A lot of those country songs you mentioned have delightful memories for me as well; memories that bring back summertime fun, friends and carefree youth...
