VTech's MobiGo gives kids ages 3-7 their own touch-tech toy that keeps them engaged while they learn. With a touch-activated screen and a QWERTY slide-out keyboard, kids get to emulate their parent's gadgets while learning from characters like Shrek, Disney Princesses and Dora. Tap, slide or flick with MobiGo - kids pick the way they play and learn about colors, shapes, spelling, math, logic and more.
Evan just turned 3 in August, and the MobiGo made it very easy for him to catch on. Sometimes when he's at the lower end of the suggest age range(The MobiGo is for kids 3-7), I can't help but wonder if he'll be able to "get it" and have fun. I was relieved when he picked it right up and knew how to play with it. To get started, simply put the cartridge in and push the On button.
The top flips up to reveal the Qwerty keyboard. Evan has trouble flipping it open and still hasn't been able to do that on his own, but he brings it to us each time and we flip it open for him. The first time you use it, the system asks you to enter the child's name. You can change it at any time, or play as a guest.
The game also keeps track of your score and I can use the USB cord to hook it into my laptop and get him "prizes" from the Vtech Learning Lodge Navigator. Using that, I can also see what he is learning while using his MobiGo.
Even though the Mickey game is recommended for ages 4-7, it is his favorite. Some of the activities are still a little over his head, but there are several games that he can easily play now. This is the game screen. He touches one of the items to take him to the game of his choice.
I know this system will entertain for many years because it has different levels. Right now, we mostly play on the easy level. At the end of each game it will ask you if you want to play the harder level, but those are still over his head. There is still so much for him to learn from the MobiGo.
The other day we took it to the *two* hour long doctor appointment and it kept him entertained most of that time. I was able to turn the volume down really low so that it didn't bother anyone else. Next time I'll remember to bring headphones to plug in.
After several weeks of testing, the verdict is in - Evan thoroughly enjoys his MobiGo. He plays with it everyday and I feel like he's learning so much from it. We hadn't even thought to start explaining how money works, but one of his favorite Mickey games is counting out the money for Pete. At first he would hop up on our lap and ask us what Pete wanted and we would help him figure it out. I am so impressed that he is starting to figure it out on his own.
As an adult, I even find this game entertaining. My brother is 19 years old and swiped the MobiGo when he was at our house the other day. He played it for a good 30 minutes and told Evan that he was a guest so Evan had to let him play with it. :) Evan really hates going shopping with us, but it is Holiday season and there will be a lot of shopping. He can sit in the buggy or stroller and play with his MobiGo so that I can get my shopping done in peace. If you're still on the fence about the Mobigo, I saw one at Target the other day on display that you can try out. It really is a fun toy that will get many years of use.
The MobiGo would make a great educational gift for any child 3-7. They'll have so much fun that they won't even realize they're learning. Another great gift idea would be the V.Reader. We have had it for several months and both of my kids still enjoy playing with it almost daily. Visit Vtech to learn more and view all of their products.
The MobiGo retails for $59.99.
