The Great Crib Escape

This morning I was getting breakfast ready for the kids when I heard Isabella wake up. I told Evan to go up there and tell her mommy was coming in just a second. I heard them giggling and then I heard BAM. I sprinted up the stairs and my heart fell in my stomach when I saw my baby girl on the floor. She started screaming and I could tell that Evan had nothing to do with it(even though I originally thought he might have tried to get her out by himself).

He was in her toybox making her laugh and I guess she tried to get out to join him. She is completely fine now, but it scared me and also reminded me of when Evan did it. I went digging and found the post from the day when Evan fell out of his crib.

If you've been reading my blog you know that my kids have birthdays that are two days apart. Evan fell out of his crib in October(the 17th) - exactly two years ago. He did it right after I started blogging. I had to laugh when I found that post. I'm really glad that I blog and have these memories so accessible.

I checked and saw that her crib mattress can go down just a little more so I'm making my husband do that tonight. I guess I gave birth to two daredevils who both jumped out of their cribs at 14 months.

Oh boy! Both of my son's have never tried that. I have caught them climbing on the furniture. It scared me really bad when Mica was standing on the arm of the couch and he was Isabella's age. We have wood floors. I didn't say anything to alarm him in fear he'd fall off. I just walked over and grabbed him as fast as I could.

poor baby! Neither of my girls have tried to get out of their cribs, knock on wood! I'm worried about it though! I have hard wood floors and it really freaks me out!

Wow! My 2-year-old still doesn't try to get out of the crib, I guess I'm lucky - LOL.

We had a crib jumper as well and it really does give you a scare. Lucky for you her bed goes down a little more!

Scary, but hopefully it will be a long while until she tries it again! :)

I'm hoping Isaac never does that - scary! Tristan never did but Isaac is much braver than his big brother.

How scary! I have the mattress as low as it will go in my daughter's crib, but I have found her several times with her foot all the way up on the top rail, like she's going to climb over. Either she can't or she hasn't tried hard enough yet. She's almost two though, so when/if she does, we'll put her in her toddler bed, but still...scary.

And how weird that they did it at almost the same exact time!

I'm glad she didn't fall out and I'd be lowering the mattress too! What a little daredevil she is!

I have two daughters (now teens). I was lucky because neither one tried to climb out of the crib. It's funny how both of your kids did it at about the same age. I'm so glad she wasnt hurt and hope she doesnt try it again.

My son started vaulting out of his early, as well. He was in a twin bed by 18 months. My daughter followed his example and was in a twin bed by 14 months. Fun times.

Looks like its time for a toddler bed. My grandson did the great escape at about 16 months. At 18 months, after a second escape, I bought him a Lightening McQueen Toddler bed. My daughter was afraid that he would be all over the house unattended if he was in a toddler bed at this age, but he loves cars so much that he didn't even want to get out of it in the morning.

Glad she is okay, a fall like that really scares you.

Wow..scary! My girls never got out of their cribs...they climbed into them, but never out!

However, they are both daredevils!

Hope moving the mattress down helps.

One of the many reasons I don't use cribs. That would scare the crap out of me! Crazy that they both did it at the same time though.

My youngest has just started trying to climb out of her crib. Thankfully, she shares a room with her older sister so the blood curdling scream I heard was her big sissy scared that she was going to fall and WASN'T preceeded by a BAM. We moved Mari back into the pack-n-play in our room while we try to figure out what on earth to do about it!

OMG That would've given me a heart attack! I'm so glad she's okay. Kid's just don't care. They never think first. They just know what they want, and they go for it. I guess she loves, and trusts her brother so much that if he can do it, she can do it no matter what it takes.

Ok, so I am scared now. Haha... so when the crib mattress is all the way down do they STILL escape? I'm sorta okay with the escaping, falling is what I am worried about. My daughter is 10 months old and she bumps and bangs herself everywhere. I don't know how she can be so tough. Crazy child. I just want to wrap her in bubble wrap. And this is just my first child. Can't imagine me taking on more that this so far. I give women with more than one child LOTS of credit.
