I Need Some Help - Pumpkin Patches And Other Fall Goodness

Its not secret that I live in the south. We're still in the 90s down here and don't really "do fall" like I hear some of you do. We went to what I can best describe as a "knock-off pumpkin patch" last year and was completely disappointed because I saw many of your pictures from your trips.

So here are my questions. What is "the time" to go to pumpkin patches and see all the pretty things that fall has to offer. I also would like to visit somewhere to pick apples!

Evan loves trains and we were going to take him to A Day Out With Thomas last year, but never made it. I just looked and saw that there is one in Spencer, NC on Oct 1-3.

Does anyone know if there is ANY sort of pumpkin patch or apple orchard anywhere near there or Charlotte? Also, is that a good time frame. I'm not sure when people go to pumpkin patches-I know its kind of close to Halloween.

The one benefit of living in New England is that Fall is stunning here! We go the first week of October so we can enjoy our pumpkins. If we get them to early they will just rot! Yuck!

I live in Maryland and fall has not started yet. We usually head to the pumpkin patch and apple farms the 2nd week in October. Love fresh apples off the tree.

Hi. I live in Rock Hill, SC, which is about 25 minutes south of Charlotte, straight on down I-77. A really nice apple orchard and pumpkin patch is in the next town west of us in York, SC. It is called Windy Hill Orchard... http://windyhillorchard.com/
I highly recommend it!

Hey, I use this site to find the pumpkin patches in my state. So you can use this for any state, just scroll down to the bottom and find your state then click your area. It shows what counties are in NC, so since I am not sure I figured I would just share the link with all. Just make sure to call ahead to the farm to make sure they are still participating. Sometimes the site owner doesn't know if the farm still does it or not so that's good to know before heading out. Usually all the pumpkin farms have apple picking of some sort or maybe even a pet section to see the farm animals. We usually go a week before Halloween. HTH. :)

The best time to go to a pumpkin patch is anywhere in October. The VERY best time to go the first or second week in October because the pumpkins are plentiful and large and if you go the first week, there's not a huge abundance of people. If you go the second week or the week before halloween, it's going to be swamped.

An idea, check your local newspapers and craigslist (farm & garden or events) for pumpkin patches and other fall events.

2nd week in Oct in TN or NC is GORGEOUS time for apples AND pumpkins! We went last year the following week and apple orchards got hit by an early storm. So definitely earlier the better!
