Coffee Tables And Toddlers

We don't have a coffee table, but I desperately want one. My sister is 12 years younger than I am and I remember her taking a nasty fall on one - she still has the scar on her lip. I'm sure there are ways to baby proof them, but my way is to just take it out.

My mom has one and Evan has gone headfirst into it more than once. Now that Isabella is walking around(not very gracefully), my dad likes to take it out of the room when we're over. I want to get one as soon as she masters the art of walking(we all know it takes toddlers a while to get it down). Of course as soon as she gets the hang of it we'll probably have another baby. I just didn't realize how many choices there are. I think I like this one, but I see so many that I like.

Do you have small children? If so, do you have a coffee table? Have they ever fell on it?

CSN will be providing me with a gift card to review one of their products after I write this post.

We had one,but not now...too many falls and bonks on the head from crawling underneath...We got rid of ours with the 1st and still do not have one and expecting our 3rd.

I have a padded ottoman. It is soft to bump into but it can be used for putting remotes on or putting your feet up on. We also throw coasters on it and put drinks on it when the kids are not up.

Got rid of ours after the first kiddo..really it was because we needed the room.

We live at my in-laws and my mother in law has a round coffee table. It seems to work well with the kids (no corners to bump on). My son seems to take a tumbler everywhere so the table hasnt been too much of an additional problem. (He does like to climb on it though).

we do have one. But my advice. dont spend a ton of money on one. they thrash it!! not buying super nice furniture until kids are older. Love ours from ikea. its nice, but affordable so not super anal about it :)

I haven't had a coffee table since having kids. My brother took a nasty spill when he was a kid and got a nasty bruise on his temple.
Then, when my son was 3 he was at my mom's and ran through the living room, fell into a rounded, doily covered 'safe' coffee table and split his eyebrow. Needed stitches and it was super traumatic for both of us.

DO NOT get a coffee table!!! LOL Sorry to scare you but unless you have all girls then I will say get one! My daughter did great with a coffee table in house .. my two sons?! Both have given me heart attack after heart attack! But they are pretty!

I have one, I was worried about DD bumping into it, but it is lower on the ground (cant crawl under) She does like to eat her snacks off of it and can now climb on it, but when she was walking it wasn't a problem, we just pushed it up against the entertainment center so it wasn't in her way. No bumps or bruises from it.

We don't have a coffee table but we have a few end tables. That's how Tristan got his stitches (it even has rounded edges). But mostly they learn to walk around them. Isaac doesn't walk gracefully & hasn't even hurt himself on it yet.

yes we have one...a cheapo from KMart that we've had for 6 years now and it still hasn't died. Hmm. And Colton has taken multiple diggers onto it. One required some glue near his eye..he's has a tiny scar.

We have one, but it's against the wall. My sister's is all scratched up because their son's roll cars on it. Our coffee table is a little scratched up, but not as bad because we don't let our kids run toys along it.

Our youngest has fell head first into my sister's coffee table. He had to get stitches. I don't blame this on my sister, or her table. He was cutting teeth, and his equilibrium was off. He could of fell into a toy, wall, or anything else.

I had one but Tristan liked to climb on it and the corners were very sharp, sold it. Don't want another one. They just tear up your knees. lol

I have a coffee table that is about 100 lbs (yeah, I know). Little Man is 2-1/2 and I remember only once when he bonked himself on it. However, I constantly have black and blue all over my knees and legs from running into it. My next coffee table will be a lightweight table that moves when I run into it lol.

We finally put ours back in our family room and our youngest is 3 1/2! They can be dangerous depending on the type of room it's in. In ours, it's our main family room and the kids were always running through it. If you want, maybe get an oversized ottoman instead! That's what we had before we bought our table. It's soft and cushion-y, and can be very attractive, too.

when my son was a baby, we moved and bought a new sectional with a 5x5 ottoman... it is perfect for small children !! I keep a tray in the middle of it to hold cups, remote, etc and my son loved to walk around and around it when he was learning and I never had to worry about falls.

I've gotta say that no matter what, there's always a danger there. At six on a rounded edged coffee table, I fell and hit my chin so hard I needed stitches. We put bumpers on out coffee table with our kids and no injuries.
