Aloha Friday

It's Aloha Friday over at An Island Life! Answer my question and make sure you post one on your blog! After that, go relax because today is Friday!!

Own or Rent? What do you think is the way to go?
We built our house almost 4 years ago and at the time I would have said own was the way to go. Now that I'm trying to sell my house, I wish we were renting so that we could easily move on and buy something else.

AND our air conditioner broke a few weeks ago so we had to pay to fix that. Both ways have their pros and cons!

I agree, there are pros and cons with both. You don't get anything out of renting, and as for us, we are only paying $6 more a month to own our home. We are remodeling top to bottom though which is a huge expense out of our pockets. We've owned twice and have rented the rest of the times.

We're living in an apartment right now and trying to buy a house. So tired of apartment living - all those neighbors and the parking lot and just ugh. We want to OWN!

I love roots and personalizing... so I go with owning. Renting always felt so temporary to me.

I would rather own I think. I love having a place to call my own and do what I want with it. I agree though, there are pros and cons to both. Having the responsibility to pay for things that breakdown is not fun! And, I can totally relate to the feeling of wishing you were renting so you could move more easily. We have owned our home for 3 years and are currently trying to sell our house so we can move. It can be an exhausting process at times.

I love owning, but I am sooo with you on the selling the house thing. My husband & I were just having this same discussion this week. We were discussing moving.

It took us just over a year with our house on the market to sell, but then we found our dream house in our price range and it is so big I am never moving ever again!

Owning is better because it is an investment and when you leave, you usually get something back.

Have a great Friday!

I think owning is better, because all of these years of renting could have gone towards paying off a home. It seems like a waste when it doesn't go towards anything really.
But owning your own home comes with the things you mentioned - all the repairs are yours to deal with. But I still can't wait to own a home!

We're hoping to own soon. I know that there are pros and cons to both... But I want our own place. I've heard they are trying to make renting more appealing for people. The idea of owning my own home and bit of land is much, much more appealing to me.

Currently we live in a apartment, we would rather own a home but we move every 3 years and dont think it is wise to own a home just yet, but maybe in the near future. Owning is best I think unless it works against you or you have to move around a lot.

Generally, renting isn't all that bad. Usually your landlords fix things when they break...unless you rent from a cheap church (is that blasphemous?) and they don't want to fix the mold they could have stopped months ago....anyway...that being said, I'd love to own. I want to make my house a home with paint and decor...but my guess is that won't happen in the near future.

I would always prefer owning, but I think if the rental was really nice and included yard work and a POOL I'd go for it! ;)

I prefer owning because I don't like paying someone else's mortgage! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a great weekend.

We finally own! It's super nice to have something to call ours, but when something breaks, or we need a new roof (happened 6 weeks after we moved in) or something like that, it really would be nice to rent again.

Im going to say own because eventually you pay it off then its yours & resale value is generally higher.
