Parenting Questions Answered - Mommy Brain

I've been up to my eyeballs in the Outdoor Oasis event(which still isn't over and has more great giveaways coming) and I haven't posted any parenting/mommy questions in a while. Events from this weekend lit a fire under my behind to bring it back and start asking questions.

Before I had children I'm not sure if I had even heard of Mommy Brain. Now I'm living it. I lose EVERYTHING and my memory just stinks. We went shopping on Friday and we got back to the car and I couldn't find my keys. Anywhere. My car has those numbers on the handle so you can get into your car, but of course I couldn't remember what the combination is. My mom told me I should go back in the store and ask to see if I left my keys. I didn't because I was convinced I left them in the car.

So my husband drove us the 25 minutes to go home and get the spare key. We get back to the car, open it up, and I still can't find my keys. Finally my husband goes in the store and there they are! I had sat them down at some point. I still don't remember putting them down!

So I am wondering-
Do you have a case of Mommy Brain? Is it bad?

I have certainly had those moments, yes! Sometimes I'm holding the very thing I'm looking for in my hand!

Umm yeah all the time, I have four kids and it got worse with each kid. They say you lose brain cells with every child you deliver lol.

Just last week we were at our Parent Center at our school and I had Holden on my hip yet was looking around the room for him lol.

Oh yeah, major mommy brain on a daily basis. I'm lucky if I remember my own name. I've lost keys, put things in the freezer, called the kids the wrong name....with 5 kids and a full time job I feel like I am totally losing it.

I have Mommy Brain moments like that all the time! The same thing with the keys happened to me over at my mom's house a few years ago. My hubby left work and drove almost an hour to come unlock the doors for me. When he got there he saw the keys sitting on top of the car above the door. I had sat them there when I was unbuckling one of the kiddos!

Yes, I completely do I have mommy brain! Some days are worse than others, unfortunately. But I figure as long as I remember my kids, I'm ok.

I showed up to our doctor's office last week for my daughters 9 month check up, only be to asked why I was there. When I told her, she said "Um... your appointment is actually next Monday". Oooh, Well, then... I guess I just wanted to sit in the waiting room and take a load off? ;)

This is one of those things nobody tells you about before you have kids....probably because they forgot. Ha! =)
The other day I got my whole family ready for family pictures and we were in the car heading out of our neighborhood and I said "oh my gosh, pictures might be TOMORROW!" My husband was not happy =). I called to confirm and it was that day. (sigh of relief)

Oh yes, I have a terrible case of mommy brain. It's really bad when I try to do work for my paid job- I've been working there for 7 years, so my coworkers got used to me being smart and useful- then I got married and had two kids and lost about half of my brain cells. I have to keep telling them to not expect my old level of usefulness! :)

Today I tried to pour cereal into my coffee mug ... thank goodness there wasn't coffee in it yet ... perhaps the reason why I tried to pour in the cereal!

I got Mommy Brain really bad when I was pregnant with each of my kids. My hubby said, "Why are you switching places with me?" It got better, but I do still do something crazy every once in awhile. ;)

As women we are forced to multitask all the time, so it's only natural to get overwhelmed, and forget things every once in awhile.

I just had my second child 6 weeks ago and my memory has never been so bad! I can probably blame it on the lack of sleep to some degree, but I was nowhere near my great old memory even when I was getting plenty of sleep with just my 2 year old who sleeps beautifully. Gahh, I feel ya!

I read an article about this a few years ago. Pregnant women complain about not being able to remember things properly, etc., and so they did a study and discovered that while they're pregnant, women's brains rewire themselves to make them better able to handle the multi-tasking that becomes necessary as a mother of little ones. I don't remember anything from the study about after the birth, but I'm pretty sure a good portion of that memory thing is not getting a solid 7 hours of sleep.

Shortly after I'd read this article, I was wedding ring shopping and the girl behind the counter was taking my information and had to write my phone number about eight times before she got it right. She said, "I don't know what's going on with my brain. I haven't been able to get anything right with phone numbers and addresses for weeks." I said, "You don't happen to be pregnant, do you?" Wide-eyed, she said, "How did you know?" and I told her about the article. It seemed to make her feel much better.

I used to be very organized before I had kids and now I can't keep anything straight.

Oh my goodess, my mommy-brain seems to be getting worse by the DAY of late! I have become completely unreliable for remembering what I said I would do within about 30 seconds of agreeing to it! I forget that I have food on the stove....I lose my keys/cell phone CONSTANTLY (usually in my purse). I have to laugh every time my husband says "remind me to..."
Hmmmm, now what was it that we were talking about again? =D

My "mommy brain" mishaps all relate to how much sleep I have gotten. This week? Big case of mommy brain... LOL!

Yes -- and I'm only just pregnant with my first!

Oh my gosh yes!!! I was with junior high and high school friends the other night and we were talking about what things we could remember from being kids. I can remember their birthdays and some of their phone numbers even. However, I cannot tell you what I did, what I ate, or what I wore yesterday. It concerned me for a while but now I have come to terms with the fact that I will never remember anything ever again. Lol.
