Step 2 Naturally Playful® Countryside Cottage™ Review And Giveaway

It never really gets cold here, so we spend most of the year outside. We're always looking for new ideas and products to keep our children active outside.

Take a tip to the countryside with Step2’s Naturally Playful Countryside Cottage. This adorable play house will bring the charming old-world back to life in children's imaginations with its stone cottage and shale roof. A working Dutch door and built in planter for flowers heightens the old-fashioned make-believe feeling. Detailed interior fixtures include a stone fireplace, kitchenette with sink, swivel faucet and burner with clicking knob. A postal mail slot, electronic doorbell and a play phone are included to complete the cottage.

It came in one big box and didn't really have a whole lot of pieces to put together. I could have easily assembled it by myself, but I took pictures while my dad and husband put it together.


These are the pieces that it came in.


Evan stood and rang the doorbell over and over while they put the playhouse together. It took 2(AAA) batteries and was easy to screw into place. There is a mail slot right next to the doorbell that Evan has had a blast putting real mail through.


The sink area has has a swivel faucet, stove burner, and a clicking knob. If this playhouse had a little table and chairs, it would be perfect.


There is a phone that also takes 2(AAA) batteries. Evan loves to call people on his phone.


There is a planter that we'll eventually buy flowers for and let Evan plant them. I thought that fake flowers or something came with it, but they don't. Evan will have a blast watering his own flowers.


I took play food from our Step 2 kitchen and Evan likes to "make lunch". He kept looking for somewhere to sit and eat it. He didn't understand that he could have a sink, but no table. I think I'll purchase a little picnic table to go right outside the playhouse.


It also serves as a playpen for Isabella. It was morning and damp so I put one of those picnic blankets down and she crawled around and played with the food. Evan kept going in there to play with her.


The playhouse is 58.50 H x 55.00 L x 54.00 W. It is large enough for two children, but I think it would start the be cramped with three. I could also easily fit in there with Evan. I love how open it is. It lets in a ton of natural light and keeps the breeze going through on hot days.


The playhouse is large, but not too big to be kept inside. Since it is really open, lots of light will be able to get in even if you keep it in a playroom. The quality is amazing and we look forward to years of play with the Countryside Cottage.
