Leapfrog is a company that has the tools I need to help him succeed. They have some of the most innovative, technology-based educational products. They also have several resources available on their website to aid with the learning process including a special Parents Community and Learning Path.
Even though we have several of their toys, I've never watched a Leapfrog DVD. We were sent their new Math Adventure to the Moon DVD, Learn & Groove® Counting Maracas, and Chat & Count Cell Phone.
Math Adventure to the Moon™ DVD
Join Tad and Lily as they blast off on an exciting educational adventure! Tad and Lily need the perfect collection of things to take to school for their math assignment. When they finally decide on moon rocks, there’s just one problem — how will they get them? With some magical help from their firefly friend, Edison, they board a rocket ship to start their quest. Soon the twins learn that math is everywhere, even in outer space! Watch as they use their skills in counting, sorting, skip counting and recognizing patterns to overcome obstacles, find new friends and make the trip back to Earth!
The DVD is meant for children ages 3-6, so I really thought it would be over Evan's head. He wanted to put "the frog DVD" in as soon as it arrived. He was glued to the television the whole time. He got up and danced when the "Math Is Everywhere" song came on and later sang parts of it to his dad.
This is his favorite part of the DVD. They sing numbers in the rocket ship as they try and get it to speed up. Evan impressed me when he was singing along to the numbers. They start counting by 2s,5s, etc and I thought that would mess him up, but he seemed to understand.
Needless to say, I am very impressed by this movie. I even think it is cute and have watched it several times with him. It teaches everything about math-counting, addition, sorting, and much more.
Chat And Count Cell Phone
Fun learning in a smart little phone! Sing along to songs about counting and phone routines, explore more than 15 phone activities and call on Scout for learning fun as you trade calls and voicemails with your puppy pal. Parents can connect to the online LeapFrog® Learning Path for customized learning insights and ideas to expand the learning.
Evan already has a love for cell phones and was excited to see this one. He took one look at it and said, "My cell phone!". He walks around the house talking and counting on his new phone.
If you press a button, the number pops up on the screen and then pictures of different items. For example, if you press two-it says "two dog biscuits." and two biscuits appear on the screen before scout walks over to eat them.
Learn & Groove® Counting Maracas
Get in the learning groove with the Learn & Groove® Counting Maracas. Music Play mode encourages baby to explore and create music—inspires creative interaction and open-ended play. In Counting mode, each shake encourages your child to count to 10 in both English and Spanish.
This is a toy that Evan and Isabella can play with together. One Maraca sings, counts, and tells colors while the other one has beads inside of it that make noise when you shake it. You can switch the mode to colors, numbers, or music. With colors, the end actually lights up the color that it says. Every time you shake it, the maraca will say the next number or color(depending on what mode you're in). If it has been a few seconds without moving, it will say "pick me up!" so that the child will continue to learn cause an effect. You can also teach colors and numbers to your child in Spanish if you switch the language.
If you're looking for products to help your child with their math skills, leapfrog has some amazing choices. The Maracas start teaching them math at 6 months and the DVD is great for kids up to age 6. Repetition is the best way to learn and they won't even realize that they're gaining knowledge with these fun toys and DVD.
You can purchase the Math Adventure to the Moon DVD for $14.98, the Learn & Groove® Counting Maracas are on sale for $12.37, and Chat & Count Cell Phone for $14.99.
