Aloha Friday #16

Photobucket

It's Aloha Friday again over at An Island Life! Answer my question and make sure you post one on your blog! After that, go relax because today is Friday!!

My question for this week is:

Have you ever been on a cruise? Have you taken your kids on a cruise? Do you get sea sick?

I have never been on a cruise. My husband's Grandparents want to take the whole family on one next summer for their anniversary. Its a SEVEN day cruise and I just can't decide if I want to take two kids and go. The kids will be 10 months old and almost 3 years old.

And, I get sea sick while deep sea fishing, but don't know if I will on a ship! Pin It!

Nope, never been on one! But I have the same dilemma!
My boss gave us a 4 nite 3 day Carnival cruise for Christmas this year! :0)

We can't decide if we're going or not. While I LOVE the thought of fun in the sun, I'm afraid of being sea sick too!

We thought about just taking the flight to Florida and hanging around on the beach!

I got married on a cruise ship... it was wonderful and a really fun filled week.

We were going to go back with our friends for our 5 year anniversory and then we had kids, then for the 10 year anniversory and we had more kids.

I personally wouldn't take little kids on a cruise just because I would be nervous about them around the edge of the boat.

Never been on one, but I don't really have much desire to! I think it would make me so sick!

I have never been on a cruise. I would love to go. I do tend to get seasick, but I think if the ship was big enough I would be okay.

We have never been on a cruise, but it is something we have thought about. Once our little guy is old enough for the kid activities it is something nice to think about. I also get sea sick on smaller boats. I have been told my countless people that with the cruise ship stabilizers most people do well on them. Still I would likely get something to take just in case I need it.

I've only been on a short weekend cruise--I am hoping to take my son on a Disney cruise when he gets older. I think it would be fun to take your whole family on a cruise--even though it's seven days, I'm sure you will find enough to do with all the ports of calls

Never been on one. I would hope my first cruise would be sans kids....after that we'll do a family one!! My mom and other family members went last year and they LOVED it, no one mentioned sea sickness!

A couple of years ago we took our then 4 & 9 yr olds on a Disney cruise. It was AWESOME! The kids never wanted to come back. They had sooo much fun & even when we "forced" them to be w/ us there was always something for all of us to do.

Talk to your dr about sea sickness patches. You can always check w/ the medical office onboard too. They'll have stuff. Almost everyone was wearing patches the first day of our cruise because we had awful weather. And the patches worked! Even saw some babies w/ them on.

Never been on a cruise but I have been on boats and have never gotten sick. I will gladly go in your place LOL

I've never done it, but would love to.
Walmart sells natural herbal sea sickness meds that are amazing! But they also sell pills that last for 12 hours and do not make you tired. Those are FANTASTIC, and are the only reason we made it home from a vacation without puke all over the car once time.

I'd go!

Never been on a cruise. We are possibly going in November with Andy's family. I wasn't planning to bring G, but I was having a really hard time with the idea of leaving him. Then I found out Andy's brother is bringing his kids. They will be 8 and 12, so a lot older than G. That really bugs me though because now it is a big family vacation except we aren't bringing G. Not that I really want to bring him because he goes to bed at 7:30 and then someone would be stuck in the room with him. But if I am leaving him for a week I don't think I want it to be for a FAMILY vacation, I would want to do what I want to do and that doesn't happen on a family vacation. Grrrr! Sorry, this became about me, but this has been a subject of discussion lately!

I've never been on a cruise. I watch too much Dateline and their people getting abducted while on a crusie stories so I'm scared to, lol.

Nope! Been sailing though, panic attack included. My dear FIL didn't seem to notice that I was freaking the hell out while we were rocking back and forth practically at a 45 degree angle the whole trip. Meanwhile my BIL and his girfriend are ralfing over the side of the boat, Mat's comforting me, and my MIL is yelling "Turn the engines on for heaven's sake!". It was a great trip...

My Aunt used to work for Royal Caribbean and we cruised pretty much every year with a friends and family discount. I have never taken my own children but went with my aunt and uncle many times to take care of my much younger cousins. I believe most cruise lines have free children's programs for ages 3 and up where you can drop them off similar to a day camp and they can have fun with other kids and fun, energetic staff members.
As far as getting sea sick, the waters have to be REALLY rough for most people to even feel the ship moving. If you have ever been in a tall building on a windy day and felt the small motion, that is about as much as you typically feel. I have gotten sick deep sea fishing too, but never on a cruise. If you are worried about it there are small patches about the size of a dime that you can place behind your ear to keep you from getting sea sick. The other pointer I have is to refrain from eating soup or drinking too many liquids your first day until your body adjusts to being at sea.
Hope that helps!

I went on a cruise as a teenager & it was fun. I'm not so sure it'd be fun with kids though...unless it's like a Disney one or something.

Hopefully you wouldn't get sick when you're on a large ship.

I've never been on a cruise but I have one booked for July. We are doing an 8 night Greece and Turkey cruise and I can't wait. My mom went on a small weekend cruise a few years ago and wore the patch and never got seasick. I think I'll try half a patch when I go so I can still enjoy the drink of the day ;)

I've been on a Caribbean cruise and next month, interestingly, were going on a Mexican cruise on the very same cruise ship.

Yes, I've been on two cruises in my lifetime. Got very seasick the first time and ended up getting an injection from the couple we shared our dining table with-turned out he was a pharmacist and came prepared. For the second cruise, I put the patch on the day before we left for the actual cruise and had a great time. Kids don't seem to get seasick, but I'd be prepared anyway. See your doctor before your cruise and get a prescription from him for the patch or some type of motion sickness medication and you'll have a great time! Most cruise lines now have babysitting available and a kid's fun Coordinator, again, check with your cruise line. Definitely GO, you'll have the time of your life. The kids will have fun and plan on gaining weight-watch out for the midnight dining:)

I've actually never been on one, no desire to either. I'm afraid of ending up like the Titanic.

We took a cruise on our honeymoon- and both my husband and I were sea sick the whole time- ugg. Things that helped- gravol and sea-bands. Also get a cabin near the end of the ship. Our room was right up front, and our little room rocked like crazy. We still managed to have fun, it was very relaxing, and the food was amazing!

I haven't been on a cruise but I would love to go with my hubby and daughter. We just love our island boat rides.

(Removed my post earlier, it was a comment meant for another site. Got confused. Hehe. Sorry about that.)

No, but I would love to go on one. I think I would wait until my youngest is at least 3.
