Aloha Friday #11

Photobucket

It's Aloha Friday again over at An Island Life! Answer my question and make sure you post one on your blog!

My question for this week is:

Do you grow any of your own food?
We do in the summer! I'm really missing those tomatoes and cucumbers right now!! My parents live on many acres and have a few fields. We do TONS of corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, zuchini, squash, watermelon, cantaloupe, bell peppers, and other random things! The corn takes 6 of us 2 days to pick, shuck, and put up but it lasts us almost until the next July! We still have corn in our freezer, but I am ready for the other stuff! Pin It!

We've only tried tomatoes and peppers so far and have had limited success. I guess we should keep trying.

we grew some stuff in buckets last year - tomatoes, some peppers. it really wasn't worth all the work to be honest! i probably got 4 tomatoes and a half dozen peppers out of the deal.
i could have bought that many times over from the farmer's market for just what I paid for the soil! so, I prob won't be doing it again.

This is the first year I have tried a fall/winter garden (live in FL) and the tomatoes are doing so much better than the summer ones! I have cukes, peas, carrots, peppers, radishes, and oinions right now. I'm also seeing how long the current plants will produce....FL is funny that way - annuals are not really annuals.

Not right now. But once we get our side and backyards finished at some point, I'd love to put in a garden.

Yes! I love my mini garden. Next summer I plan to double the size of my garden. There's just nothing like growing your own food, it's so gratifying, isn't it?! =)

I have a pineapple plant, actually 3. I have grown my own tomatoes too, but the growing season here in FL is different than most of the world and I just can't adjust to it still

I am TRYING to grow berry bushes, but I don't know how that is going. Except that we didn't have berries this year or last year.
I don't have the yard space to plant a garden. I "could" but I have kids and they need a place to play, too.
I would love to have food to pick, but I know I wouldn't like the work involved.

My daughter did plant zucchini and cantaloupe that she got in her horticulture class, and we did get some of those. The cantaloupe did not get big enough to eat, but it was neat.

I usually grow tomatoes and green peppers.

They are the only vegetables that grow good for me.

No, we don't over here. The problem is that I live in a condo building and my "back yard" is a balcony. Once we buy a house, I TOTALLY plan on growing fruits and veggies. AND, I want to raise some chickens. (don't laugh)

No, I'd like to start though!

This year we plan to try some veggies in monster pots. We need to get them up off the ground because of animals. In addition to this our soil is horrible. We shall see how it goes.

Sometimes we have a garden. Last year, I didn't have to buy ANY tomatos during the summer and fall. It was soooo great. If I could, I would grow everything. We are working on a better garden.

Do you count mold or our Veggie Tales collection? I'm terrible, but great question idea! And the photo in your header is precious!

No I don't grow any food, I don't have the space. I would if I could though.

I buy lots of locally grown food, and freeze some of it.

I am afraid I have a black thumb. I did try to grow pumpkins this year...and I got big gorgeous leaves and flowers, but not ONE pumpkin. Bah.

No, but I'd love to. I love veggies, especially fresh ones.

I can't seem to grow anything. I tried to grow an orange tree once but it died after two weeks. :-(

We used to when we had our own house. We had chickens for eggs, and also a large vedgie garden and some fruit trees. Hopefully, only we are home owners again we will be able to get another garden.

We have grown vegetables in the past, but not this year. We grow corn, tomatoes, zucchini and more.
