Driving Baby To Sleep

Did you ever have to pack your infant in the car and take them for a ride so that they would go to sleep? We did it about 2 times a week when Evan was TINY!

He just wasn't a big sleeper but would go to sleep in his car seat pretty well! We'd bring him back in the house and he would let me sleep for a few uninterrupted hours!

The other day, we were driving down the same road that we usually went down late at night to get our screaming infant to sleep. It brought back lots of memories. I actually miss doing that! Andrew would get up and drive us and I would sit in the back seat with Evan hoping he would go to sleep!

We wont be able to do that with this next one because we have Evan and one of us will have to stay home with him.

I heard this song in the car two nights ago and I cried because its so true! It breaks my heart how fast my baby is growing up. In a blink of an eye he is already 16 months old!

This was the first time I had heard this song. Its by Darius Rucker.

He didnt have to wake up
He'd been up all nite
Lay'n there in bed listen'n
To his new born baby cry
He makes a pot of coffee
He splashes water on his face
His wife gives him a kiss and says
It gonna be ok

It wont be like this for long
One day soon we'll look back laugh'n
At the week we brought her home
This phase is gonna fly by
So baby just hold on
It wont be like this for long

Four years later bout four thirty
She's crawling in there bed
And when he drops her off at preschool
She's clinging to his leg
The teacher peels her off of him
He says what can i do
She says now dont you worry
This will only last a week or two

It wont be like this for long
One day soon we'll drop her off
And she wont even know your gone
This phase is gonna fly by
If you can just hold on
It wont be like this for long

One day soon she'll be a teenager
And at times you'll think she hates him
Then he'll walk her down the isle
And he'll raise her vale
But right now she up and cry'n
And the truth is that he dont mind
As he kisses her good night
And she says her prayers
He lays down there beside her
Till her eyes are finally closed
And just watch'n her it breaks his heart
Cause he already knows
It wont be like this for long
One day soon that little girl is gonna be
All grown up and gone
Yeah this phase is gonna fly by
He's try'n to hold on
It wont be like this for long
It wont be like this for long Pin It!

AWWW , that is so sweet! Yay for Hootie!

We never want Roslyn to fall asleep in the car. Even when she was a baby she would wake up the second we got home.

My boys hated riding in the car (weird I know) so they never fell asleep until we got home.

The song is beautiful. Yes they do grow quickly. My babies are 16 and the twins 14 and I have NO idea how that happened. I swear they were just starting pre-school.

Hootie!! I'll have to listen to that. I'll cry for sure.

I know they grow up fast, which is why I don't get annoyed when my boys end up in bed with us every now & then. Just trying to cherish each moment.

Ahhh. Fortunately my little Evan is a good sleeper, but its sweet that you have those memories, and with your new one, you'll make different memories.

Wow, that song almost made me cry just reading it!!

Sometimes that is what it takes to get Carrah to sleep. She fights it big time!!

This post really made me smile.
When I had my son five years ago...my husband and I didn't have much money, but we would drive around for hours every night and enjoy new places and sights.
I think eventually we had driven to about 10 different counties. I know that sounds crazy, but my son would sleep and we would talk and listen to the radio and still today we think back about how much fun that was...not to mention that my husband and I had time to talk and laugh when my son was a tiny baby! lol.
He LOVED the car.
Its nice you can do that too and I know how you feel about how fast they grow up...my little one is in Kindergarten now, yikes!
Enjoy this special time!

I love that song - he talked about it on the radio recently. I forget what program, but I remember hearing him talk about his new country album. It's a lovely, sweet song.

Meanwhile, I had a baby 5 minutes ago but next week he's 8 months old! What happened?

Aww that's so sweet! My parents used to put me in my car seat on top of the dryer when I was a baby! hehe On the bright side, the newborn stage will be back for your before you know it!

We didn't try driving Little Monkey around when he was little. One of us would wear him in a baby wrap and that usually put him right to sleep.

I haven't even heard the song but I'm crying reading it.

Oh what a sweet song. Its amazing looking back at the things that tired us at the time, wishing for those moments back again. Last night, it was late, I just sat in the dark with Jack, praying that he would finally go to sleep again. Looking back on it, it really was a quiet sweet and special moment with my baby boy...thank you for helping me to remember to cherish these things, even in exhaustion!!
